FAQ

Starting therapy often brings up questions, and this page is here to help you feel more informed and comfortable.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Many people consider therapy when anxiety, stress, or overwhelming thoughts begin interfering with daily life, relationships, or decision-making. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from support—therapy can also help you better understand yourself, develop healthier coping skills, and navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence.

What issues do you specialize in?

I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults experiencing anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). I also support clients dealing with depression, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, and challenges with self-esteem or focus.

What is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)?

Exposure and Response Prevention, or ERP, is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. In ERP, we gradually and safely face situations or thoughts that trigger anxiety while practicing new ways to respond without relying on compulsions or avoidance. Over time, this process helps reduce the intensity of obsessive thoughts and builds confidence in managing uncertainty.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. I work with children (ages 5+), teens, and adolescents who may be experiencing anxiety, school stress, social challenges, or emotional overwhelm. Sessions are adapted to each child’s developmental stage and may include creative activities like play, art, or games to help them express themselves more comfortably.

What is a typical therapy session like?

Therapy sessions are collaborative and focused on helping you better understand your experiences while learning practical tools for managing anxiety or stress. Depending on your needs, sessions may include discussing current challenges, practicing coping strategies, or gradually working through situations that feel difficult.

How long does therapy usually take?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, and how often we meet. Some people find relief within a few months of consistent therapy, while others choose to continue longer as they work through deeper patterns or life transitions.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions in Wheaton, Illinois, I offer secure online therapy for clients throughout Illinois. Virtual sessions allow you to receive consistent support from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. I am currently in-network with United Healthcare/Optum, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Cigna, and Aetna. If you have questions about your specific plan or benefits, you’re welcome to reach out and I can help guide you.

What are your self-pay rates?

For clients who prefer self-pay, the initial assessment is $175, and individual or couples sessions are $150. If you have questions about payment or insurance coverage, I’m happy to discuss options during your consultation.

What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?

Feeling nervous before your first appointment is very common. Many people worry about what to say or whether therapy will feel uncomfortable. My goal is to create a calm, supportive environment where you can move at a pace that feels manageable and safe.

Can therapy really help with anxiety and OCD?

Yes—many people experience meaningful improvement with the right therapeutic support. Evidence-based approaches like ERP, CBT, DBT, and ACT can help reduce anxiety symptoms, change unhelpful thought patterns, and build confidence in managing difficult situations.
